Jason Kelce on Travis and Taylor: Fame, Family, and True Love

Jason Kelce discussed the hubbub around his brother Travis Kelce’s infatuation with Taylor Swift, as well as how the increased level of popularity has affected him and his wife Kylie.

Jason Kelce doubts he’s the lucky one, despite the camera flashes making it appear like a dream.

The former Philadelphia Eagles centre recently discussed how his brother Travis Kelce’s connection with Taylor Swift has affected the whole Kelce family, including himself and wife Kylie.

“It’s been crazy,” Jason said on a June 7 episode of The Whiskey Ginger podcast. “Travis and Taylor have taken it to the next level, and that’s a whole other side of it. Kylie and I think we have it rough, and then we go hang out with one of them, and it’s like, ‘This is a whole other problem here.’ You can’t be a normal person at that point.”

When host Andrew Santino stated that Kylie, with whom Jason shares children Wyatt, Elliotte, and Bennett, is arguably more famous than the former NFL great, he responded, “She should be.”

Jason and Kylie shared their personal lives with the public through the 2023 documentary Kelce, which chronicled his NFL career. However, just a few weeks later, Travis and Taylor began dating publicly, propelling the entire family’s public image to new heights. And their current level of celebrity is almost too much for his wife.

“I think she’s a little bit uncomfortable with how much it’s become,” he said. “I think some of the other stuff she’s a little hesitant about, like, ‘I didn’t really sign up for this.'” It’s large, our family is present, and everyone knows what our kids look like. We’ve tried to recede from that a little bit.”.

However, Jason also noted that Kylie, 32, has noticed the benefits of the family’s sudden popularity, particularly in how she can help others.

“She enjoys the fact that she gets to go and do charitable outings,” he said. “She gets to give back to her community. She gets to conduct field hockey clinics for young females, among other activities. She appreciates that part of it.”

While the 36-year-old admitted that he and his wife don’t always enjoy being approached in public, especially when the interaction is negative, he emphasised that “the vast majority of people are beyond respectful and appreciative, and you realise we’re in a position of great fortune to be where we’re at.”

How does Jason believe Travis is managing it all? “I think he’s stayed true to himself,” Jason said. “He is humble. He treats everyone with the utmost respect and equality, regardless of who they are.”

Travis has stated that, while his newfound stardom is unusual, he is not fighting the alchemy of his relationship with Taylor.

“I’ve never dealt with it,” Travis told WSJ. Magazine in November. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”

He also applauded Taylor’s ability to handle a situation when the relationship is clearly visible.

“The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life,” he exclaimed. “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”

They Support One Another

Further proving their love is worthy of a rom-com treatment, fans were swooning after a concertgoer captured video of Taylor running into Travis’ arms and exchanging a passionate kiss after performing in Argentina Nov. 11. And that was after she changed the lyrics in Karma from “the guy on the screen” to “the guy on the Chiefs,” much to Travis’ surprise as he attended alongside her father, Scott Swift.

Turning out for one another’s stadium takeovers—Taylor has now attended 12 Chiefs games and is expected at the Super Bowl despite a Feb. 10 concert in Tokyo—is a show of how serious their relationship is.

“I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” Taylor told Eonline360 of their public support. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

And if her presence at the NFL games annoys you, well, Taylor can’t even be bothered to have bad blood with you. 

“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” she said. “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
