Zendaya and longtime stylist Law Roach outdid themselves for her much-anticipated Met Gala return.

Returning to the Met Gala after a five-year absence, this time as an event co-chair, the “Challengers” actress wore custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano, recalling a haute couture design he created for Christian Dior in 1999. The gown, inspired by the red carpet theme “The Garden of Time,” featured metallic birds, fruit, and vines. It was capped with a towering feather headdress and a hand-painted forest-green beret by milliner Stephen Jones.

Zendaya wore signature Margiela makeup, including thin brows, dramatic eyes, and doll-like complexion, similar to models from the design house’s January couture show.

Zendaya made an unusual move near the conclusion of the night, surprising everyone with a stunning second look – a black taffeta spring/summer 1996 Givenchy by Galliano gown purchased from Beverly Hills vintage apparel retailer Lily et Cie. According to The New York Times, Zendaya purchased look No. 8 from Galliano’s inaugural Givenchy collection, which premiered amid controversy surrounding the designer’s appointment as creative director.

More personally, the appearance represents “an investment in herself,” according to Lily et Cie founder Rita Watnick. “It states, ‘I am not an emissary for a brand. “I am my own emissary.

Zendaya and Roach wore a Philip Treacy-designed headdress made of around two dozen roses for Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2007 collection.

Zendaya, with the assistance of self-proclaimed “image architect” Law Roach, has long been recognized for her Met Gala appearances. In 2019, Roach used a wand to light up the hemline of her Tommy Hilfiger gown, creating a stunning Cinderella look on the red carpet.
