Spotlight on Student of the Week: Lauren Willcoxon at Savannah Christian Prep
Savannah Morning News’ Student of the Week initiative continues to spotlight outstanding students making waves in their schools. This week, the votes have spoken, and the spotlight shines on Savannah Christian Preparatory School’s (SCPS) Lauren Willcoxon, a remarkable sophomore.
Lauren’s dedication and involvement in various extracurricular activities speak volumes about her commitment to excellence. As a member of SCPS’s Marching Band, Concert Band, Literary Team, and Tri-M music honor society, she demonstrates versatility and talent across multiple domains. Not only does she excel in extracurriculars, but Lauren’s academic prowess is equally impressive, as evidenced by her High Honor Roll achievement while tackling challenging Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses.

Adding to her list of accolades, Lauren’s recent induction into the National Honor Society underscores her academic integrity and leadership qualities. Moreover, her selection as one of SCPS’s representatives for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation seminar is a testament to her potential as a future leader.
Lauren’s passion for music extends beyond her school’s borders, as she’s been chosen to participate in prestigious events such as the Furman University Honor Band Clinic and the JanFest Band Clinic at the University of Georgia. Her recent inclusion in the District Honor Band further solidifies her standing as a top-tier musician.
While Lauren rightfully takes the spotlight this week, let’s not forget the other exceptional students who were nominated:
Yesha Patel, a sophomore from Windsor Forest High School, showcases her leadership skills through her executive role in the DECA club. Her notable achievements in marketing competitions, including advancing to the International competition in Anaheim, California, highlight her dedication and talent in the field.
Mayes Keck, a junior at Benedictine Military School, embodies compassion and selflessness. His unwavering commitment to helping others, coupled with his integrity and positive demeanor, sets an inspiring example for his peers.
