Authorities reported that New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers fatally shot a gunman who was pursuing a couple down a street in Brooklyn on Monday.

The incident began when officers received reports of a man firing shots near Linden Blvd. close to E. 57th St. around 5:55 p.m.

Members of the Brooklyn South Critical Response Team, in an unmarked car, swiftly located the suspect about a block away near the intersection of E. 57th St. and Remsen Ave. in East Flatbush.

Witnesses observed the gunman chasing a man and a woman while discharging multiple rounds in their direction. Fortunately, the couple escaped unharmed.

Upon spotting the suspect, officers immediately intervened, exiting their vehicle and firing multiple shots at the 20-year-old individual. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Records indicate he had no prior arrests.

Although the officers were unharmed by gunfire, they were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

During the incident, two sisters shooting a music video on a nearby rooftop heard the gunfire, describing it as rapid and concerning. They expressed gratitude that they were unharmed and observed the swift response from law enforcement, including the presence of helicopters.

Earlier the same evening, a 60-year-old man was shot twice on the same block, but it remains unclear if the same suspect was involved in that incident.

The NYPD continues its investigation into the events, aiming to provide clarity and justice in this tragic incident.
