Eric Carmen, the iconic voice behind The Raspberries and the timeless ballad “All by Myself,” has passed away at the age of 74, as confirmed by his official website. The announcement, shared on his website, expressed profound sadness at his unexpected death, stating that Eric passed away peacefully in his sleep over the weekend.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Eric Carmen soared to fame as the lead singer of The Raspberries during the 1970s. The band, known for their infectious pop-rock tunes like “Go All the Way” and “I Wanna Be with You,” captivated audiences with their catchy melodies and reminiscent style, drawing inspiration from the British Invasion bands of the era.

Following the disbandment of The Raspberries, Eric embarked on a successful solo career, delivering hits like “All by Myself” and “Hungry Eyes,” the latter famously featured in the beloved film “Dirty Dancing.” His talent as a songwriter shone brightly, evident in his collaboration on “Almost Paradise,” the enchanting love theme from the movie “Footloose,” which earned him a Grammy nomination.

Eric’s chart-topping success was undeniable, with multiple singles, including “All by Myself,” “Make Me Lose Control,” and “Hungry Eyes,” gracing the Billboard Hot 100 for extended periods.

Throughout his career, he left an indelible mark on the music industry, with 13 of his songs securing spots on the prestigious chart.

Despite declining to permanently reunite with The Raspberries in 1999, Eric did join them for a memorable performance at Cleveland’s House of Blues in 2004. The band briefly reunited for a mini-tour in 2005, marking another chapter in their storied career. Their final performance together took place at Cleveland’s KeyBank State Theatre in December 2007, leaving behind a legacy cherished by fans worldwide.
