Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th President of the United States after securing enough electoral votes to clinch the win. Early Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris formally conceded the election to Trump, marking the end of a tightly contested race. Harris addressed her supporters in a speech at Howard University, urging them to look to the future, saying, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”

The Road to Victory: Trump Wins Key Swing State

The Associated Press called the race for Trump after he won Wisconsin early Wednesday morning, giving him the necessary 270 electoral votes to secure the presidency. This win, combined with a strong performance across other key states, delivered the victory Trump needed in what was a close race against Harris. As the news broke, attention turned to how Trump’s win could influence policy, particularly if Republicans gain control of the House of Representatives. While many House races remain too close to call, Republican control would provide Trump with essential support in pursuing his agenda.

Election Updates in Key States: Arizona and Nevada Still Counting

As of late Wednesday, there are still significant ballots left to be counted in some battleground states. Nevada and Arizona, two crucial states in the race for both the presidency and U.S. Senate seats, have not yet finalized their counts. In Nevada, approximately 200,000 ballots are still uncounted, with over 130,000 of those in Clark County alone. Similarly, in Arizona, officials in Maricopa County reported over 700,000 ballots remaining to be processed. The AP estimates that at least a million ballots are yet to be counted in Arizona, meaning it will take another day or more to see final tallies from both states.

Misinformation Warning from the FBI

As the election continues to unfold, the FBI has issued warnings about false videos circulating online that misuse the agency’s name and insignia. These videos promote misinformation and attempt to undermine confidence in the electoral process. The FBI clarified that none of the claims made in these videos are accurate. One video falsely claims the FBI was informed that over 300 electors reported attempted bribery, while another alleges voter pressure on U.S. military bases abroad. Additional videos contain fabricated stories about separatist groups growing in number and the FBI restricting media coverage on these topics. The FBI has cautioned the public to disregard these false narratives.

International Leaders React: Trump Speaks with South Korean and Canadian Leaders

International leaders have begun congratulating Trump on his win. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol congratulated Trump and discussed potential collaborations. The leaders addressed North Korean threats, including the country’s intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities and reported support for Russia in the Ukraine conflict. Trump proposed strengthening cooperation in areas like shipbuilding, where South Korea excels, as well as boosting U.S. competitiveness in ship exports.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also reached out to congratulate Trump in a phone call. Trudeau’s office released a statement saying that both leaders emphasized the “enduring and successful partnership” between Canada and the U.S. They discussed a range of topics including trade, supply chain issues, and North American security.

Fact-Check: Claims of Election Fraud and Vote Discrepancies

Since the election results began coming in, some claims of voter fraud and discrepancies have circulated online. These allegations include a claim that Harris received about 20 million fewer votes than Joe Biden did in 2020, suggesting potential fraud. Fact-checkers have been quick to address these narratives, clarifying that votes are still being counted and that it is premature to compare final vote counts with previous elections. Additionally, federal and local election authorities have found no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2024 election. Similar allegations regarding the 2020 election were widely debunked by multiple investigations and audits, with no credible evidence of mass fraud.

Looking Ahead

Trump’s victory brings him back to the White House for a second term, and many are eager to see how he will approach key issues, particularly with a Congress that may potentially lean in his favor. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris’s concession highlights her commitment to her supporters and her focus on the challenges ahead for her party. As the final results for the House and Senate races are confirmed, the landscape of Trump’s upcoming term will take clearer shape.

The coming days will be crucial as officials in Nevada and Arizona complete their ballot counts. The potential for misinformation, as warned by the FBI, remains high, and authorities are working to combat false claims and ensure that accurate information reaches the public.
